Have you ever heard of (@simonsinek) Simon Sinek's Golden Circle WHY Theory? If you haven't you really need to watch his TED Talk! I remember watching it years and years ago and I've been obsessed with his theory ever since! In a nutshell he talks about how knowing WHY we do what we do, we can better communicate what we do and inspire others in the process. I really feel like this theory works across the board, both personally and professionally.
For all of you that have been following my posts you know that I recently donated my hair to make wigs for children with cancer and raised over $1200 for cancer research. I've decided to finally share a highly requested photo of my new hair style along with my WHY, as I believe they go hand in hand.
Here are my top 10 reasons for WHY I do what I do:
01. I LOVE to create, design and learn everyday

Sadly you may know someone who has had cancer, is currently battling it or has been taken too early because of it. I'm taking part in a fundraiser to help make a difference and would love if you would like to help as well!
Our family has unfortunately been deeply affected by cancer many times. We have lost close family and friends to this terrible disease, know some who've thankfully beat it and sadly have a dear friend who is currently in the battle of his life.
As I sat up the other night with my sick baby and burnt hand, I came up with this quote to avoid dwelling on the negatives and instead focus on the positives. First I chose to focus on being thankful it was only a cold and not something worse. Secondly I chose to focus on the parts of my hand that weren’t burnt, which actually made the pain greatly dissipate. The saying "Mind over Matter" thankfully really held true.
Before the holidays it seemed the bad news just kept rolling in and I felt a weight that was so strong I almost couldn’t lift it. One of my sweetest friends was diagnosed with an advanced and rare form of cancer. On top of that our government does not cover the treatments he needs, his insurance provider denied his claim and the medication is exorbitantly expensive. I'm choosing to be extremely thankful for the company that is currently covering the cost of his medication, instead of the anger I feel towards the large misuse of our health care dollars. I pray this drug will help him live a long and healthy life!
The weight felt was also due to the extreme sadness I felt for one of my dearest friends and her family. They unfortunately had two of their closet family members pass within a very short timeframe of one another. In this scenario I chose to focus on the belief that they now have two beautiful angels watching over them.
Then the terrible news that my closest cousin had to say goodbye to her little baby. My heart felt absolutely broken for her and her family. I would like to believe this sweet little angel’s life was chosen so maybe thousands of others could be saved. As hard as death is to deal with, I think we should always honour a person's life by focusing on all the positives.
I hope this quote helps you when you are feeling sad or down. Trust me I've been there and changing my mindset has always helped turn that frown upside down. Focusing on the positives is where you will find your true happiness and change will happen. Life is short, live it to its fullest!
Happy New Year Everyone! I have finally decided what my 3 goals for this year will be: 1. Planning Ahead, 2. Keeping it Real and 3. Always being Thankful. As many of you know we had a baby just over a year ago. She has brought so much joy and happiness into our lives. With that also came a commitment to giving her a very large portion of our time and energy each day. I was always the person prior to having children who couldn't possibly imagine being any busier, boy was I so wrong!
The last 3 years have been really intense and I felt like I fell off the map many times. Sadly this all started with a very close family member living out of town who was terminally ill. Following this very stressful and sad period we decided to have a baby. As a person obsessed with working, pregnancy definitely brought it's own challenges and new limits. With this new work-life balancing act we needed to evaluate the way we lived both personally and professionally. We truly learned life and time are so precious and to make the best out of everyday. Fill your days with people you love most and do what fuels your soul.
Our busiest season in our business is the last 4 months of the year, combine that with Halloween, birthdays, the holidays and you have a recipe for stress overload. I tried really hard to plan ahead, I even did my holiday shopping in July! While that was all helpful, I still felt that I could have done better. I don't just mean planning more and getting more done, but actually evaluating what is really important and what I should stop obsessing over.
My promise to my family, friends and clients this year is I will plan ahead, keep it real and be thankful everyday. I will not expect that I am Wonder Woman, although that would be really awesome! I even started planning our baby girls birthday party for November, which I am super excited to say will be a Twinkle Twinkle Little Star Party!!! Can't wait to focus on all the positives the new year has to offer! Happy New Year to you all, may this year bring you so much joy and happiness! xo Lindsay
Hope you are all having an amazing long weekend with Friends & Family!!! Abby is loving her crocheted carrot (great for teething) from Wood and Yarn Toys that the Easter Bunny brought her today!
Recently we sleep trained our baby girl with Erin Junker from WeeSleep and we couldn't be happier with the results! Thank you so much Erin, you have truly changed the way we all sleep!
So far everyone we have recommended Erin to has joked about us owning a company called Whee Works and hiring a company called WeeSleep. While our Whee has a different meaning from their Wee, we both have the same client base. I know some of you have babies and children that have a hard time with sleeping, so did we! Abby was a wonderful sleeper once asleep, however she needed me to nurse or rock her to sleep...something that obviously couldn't go on forever. Since our sleep training our now 4 month old baby sleeps through the night for 12 hours and successfully takes frequent naps throughout the day!!!
The first few days were definitely a bit trying and very hard, but definitely worth every little tear and every dollar spent. I am not going to tell you it wasn't hard, but the results are amazing! She really seems to love going to sleep now and is so happy because of it! To be honest we are actually shocked that it worked so well!
Having your baby in a routine is essential for the sleep training to be successful, so we designed and framed some wall art with Abby's Morning, Nap and Nighttime Routines so we can all continue to be consistent.
I still can’t believe that what they call the 4th trimester is already over! Where did that year go! It still amazes me how time can fly by so quickly and that we actually have this sweet baby girl in our lives to love! Here is a sneak peek from Abby’s newborn session in her vintage inspired nursery. Thanks to all the super talented artisans on Etsy for making such beautiful hats for me to purchase! I have to admit I did go a little (wink wink) overboard, but I honestly could not help myself! Unfortunately I couldn’t possibly have had enough energy in those first ten days to have photographed her in all those hats! The session is still a foggy blur to me! Hahaha!
